Chairperson: Dr Robert Peat
Dr Robert Peat was nominated and accepted the role of SAADAT Chairman in November 2009. Robert is the Director of Social Work and Health with Angus Council, a post he has held since September 2003. A social worker for 24 years Robert started his career in Strathclyde before moving to Fife and then to Tayside in 1988. His first post in Tayside was Senior Social Worker Drugs and HIV and from there he moved to the first planning post created in Tayside Regional Council in 1990 to address Drugs/Alcohol and HIV issues. Subsequently Robert covered more general adult care planning work until his appointment with Angus Council in the shadow year (June 1995). As a Head of Service with Angus Council Robert was responsible for Planning and Commissioning work and during the 8 years as head of service he has also been responsible operationally for criminal justice services (3 years) and adult care services (3 years).
In December 2006 Robert was appointed to the post of Depute Chief Executive with Angus Council, a role he carries out alongside his responsibility as Director of Social Work and Health.
Within Angus Robert is the Chair of the Alcohol and Drugs Partnership and the Council’s lead officer for health improvement work.
A graduate of Strathclyde University, Robert gained his doctorate from Aberdeen University and his CQSW from Queens College, Glasgow.
Robert is the Chair of the ADSW Standing Committee on Substance Misuse and is also a member of the ADSW Executive Group. He is currently a member of the Scottish Ministerial Advisory Committee on Alcohol Problems and the Drugs Strategy Delivery Commission.
